SPECIAL CONNECTIONS ACCOMPANIED TOURS TO PARIS BY AIR

As the advantages of transfers by air become clear, we are organising ever more groups not only from Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern England, but also from central and southern England. With these tours we use hotels in central Paris and take advantage of the excellent Paris Metro system to visit the art sites of the city. Of course one can include as much in a four day tour by air as a five day tour by coach.

ACCOMMODATION

Both flights arriving at Charles de Gaulle Airport and Eurostar trains have a direct connection with the Gare du Nord and as such we use an hotel near to the station.
We use the Kyriad Lafayette. It lies some 200 yards from the Gare du Nord, yet it is in a very quiet road next to other three star hotels.
Breakfasts are full buffet style.
There is a small lounge and reception area which is manned 24 hours a day. There is also a bar with tables and chairs and bedroom accommodation for one or two participants which offers en-suite facilities and televisions. We also use the IBIS Chateau Landon. This too is near the Gare du Nord and offers comfor table and secure accommodation in rooms for one to three participants. This hotel has a café bistro, a bar and wi-fi. It has 165 bedrooms with en-suite facilities and televisions. One important advantage of both these hotels is that they are close to the metro system and within easy walking distance of Montmartre and Beaubourg.

EXAMPLE OF A FOUR DAY ITINERARY BY AIR

DAY 1
Flight to Paris. Your group will be met by our Director and will transfer to a centrally located hotel to allocate rooms and deposit luggage.
Introductory evening visit to Montmartre.
Participants will ascend the steps leading to the facade of the Sacre Coeur Church. They can enjoy a beautiful view over the city and see the street entertainers before going on to enjoy a leisurely tour of the Place du Tertre, the artists' quarter of Paris, where they can admire their work and perhaps have their own portraits sketched. We usually provide a good hot meal in our restaurant, situated in the Place du Tertre itself. There will be an opportunity to visit the Sacre Coeur Church prior to our transfer to our hotel.

DAY 2
After breakfast we will enjoy a one hour cruise on the River Seine with Bateaux Mouches. This offers an ideal introduction to the most familiar sites of the city of Paris.
Picnic lunch in the Champs de Mars next to the Eiffel Tower.

The Arc de Triomphe
Transfer to Etoile where we will explore the Arc de Triomphe. After seeing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, we will climb up inside the monument to visit the museum. Here the history of the Arc is illustrated, there is a film show and a souvenir shop. Climbing up to the viewing gallery we will enjoy a view that takes in the crazy traffic conditions around Etoile and the great boulevards extending out from this central vantage point.

The Champs Elysees
We will walk down this most famous boulevard to the Place de la Concorde, through the Tuileries gardens to the Louvre.

Ile de la Cite - Notre Dame
Some groups like to climb up the spiral staircase to the viewing gallery over the heart of Paris and on up to the tower that houses the huge bell called 'Le Bourdon'. It is also possible to visit the archaeological excavations under Parvis, the open space in front of the Cathedral. We will visit the moving ‘Memorial to the Deportation’ and there will be time to explore the tourist shops that lie in profusion along the road adjacent to the cathedral. We will make our way into the Latin Quarter, the Boulevard St. Michel where we have a ‘brilliant’ French style restaurant that offers an excellent menu and a lively atmosphere that students will love.

DAY 3
Disneyland Paris
Many groups like to include a theme park visit. There is a direct link from Gare de Nord to Disneyland Paris. With a late return flight it is possible to include such a visit on the last day.

DAY 4
Ascent of the Eiffel Tower
The first level offers two film shows and an exhibition, a restaurant for coffee or a café, a shop and spectacular views. Visit to ‘la Defense.’ This is one of the most spectacularly modern areas of Paris, where skyscrapers are gathered around the Great Arch. Participants will be able to have their lunch, while looking over views to the Arc de Triomphe and beyond. There is an extensive commercial area where participants can enjoy last minute shopping before their transfer to the airport and return flight.
